1. despise (v) 輕視
She despised gossip in any form.
2. feeble (a) 微弱的,衰弱的,無效的
Business is suffering because of the feeble economy.
3. insult (v)侮辱,無禮
She felt they had insulted her by repeatedly ignoring her questions.
4. opposition (n) 反對,對抗,對立;阻力,反對派,反對黨
The coach advised her team not to underestimate the opposition.
5. ridicule (n) (v)嘲笑,愚弄,笑柄
The other kids ridiculed him for the way he dressed.

Rescue workers managed to pull two injured people out of the rubble.

The boys continually taunted each other.

The boy's mother told him to stop teasing the dog.

They were subjected to name-calling and jokes at their expense.
10. turn back 往回走,折回
The weather became so bad that they had to turn back.
11. break down 失敗;崩潰;出故障;分解
The telephone system has broken down.
12. cover up 掩飾,遮掩,掩蓋,包括
Government sources denied there had been a deliberate cover-up.
13. giving out 散發,公佈
The radiator gives out a lot of heat.
14. stir up 激起,引起,惹起
The wind stirred up a lot of dust.
